BBFC

Because my trailer will be a horror trailer, I thought it would be a good idea to research what sort of certification my movie would receive if I were to actually produce the film. Knowing the certification that horror movies get will also help me know my target audience so I know what sort of age range I'm aiming my trailer at.

All classification decisions are based on the BBFC’s published and regularly updated Guidelines. The Guidelines are the product of extensive public consultation, research and the accumulated experience of the BBFC over many years.

The BBFC endeavours to classify submitted works in one of the following categories:

Horror

Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour

Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Language

There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’). The strongest  terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be acceptable if justified by the context.

Violence

Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.

The film 'paranormal activity' is a 15 and seeing as I am basing my trailer on supernatural and paranormal happenings, I think this would be the certificate that my trailer would get as long as I make sure that I stick to the guidlines fully otherwise if my film were to be made, it would be rejected as a 15.
